Back on June1, Aaron made the comment (via his Facebook page) that he "Got the final mix of my new album and it sounds amazing. Can't wait to share it with ya'll."
It looks like we Neville fans will only be waiting three more months until we can hear it. According to Amazon.com, "I Know I've Been Changed" is set to be released on October 26, 2010 by EMI Gospel.
No further information is available at this time.
Thanks to Linda Burns for alerting us to this release date!
While perusing Amazon.com's "mp3 Downloads" section, we discovered three new Dumpstaphunk tracks; "Gettin' It Started," "Resting My Eyes" and "Walkin' Down Bourbon Street."
The three songs can be purchased individually or as part of a collection titled "New Orleans."
Click HERE to purchase digital downloads.
iTunes users can also download the track from that service!
Charles has recently unveiled a new official web page. The site features lots of great photos, some sound clips, news items, a discography and up-to-date tour information.
Thanks to frequent contributor, Heather H for bringing this to our attention!!!
Charmaine recently openend a restaurant in New Orleans named Charmaine's Place. It is located at 1433 Saint Charles Avenue, just upstairs from the St. Charles Tavern. Allegedly, Charmaine plans on doing it all herself. She will cook, tend bar AND provide the music!
Speaking of Charmaine, she sings one track on the recently released Holley Bendtsen/Amasa Miller LP, "Our Song." Both Bendtsen and Miller are members of the Pfister Sisters. Charmaine's fans will also recognize Miller as one of the founding members of the Charmaine Neville Band.
The disc, which was released by Threadhead Records, can be purchased from Louisiana Music Factory. Digital downloads can be purchased from Amazon's mp3 store, i-Tunes or Threadhead Records' own site.
(For those who prefer lossless downloads, Threadhead's site offers them!)
In a recent post on the Jazz Fest's official message board, Threadhead's head honcho, Chris Joseph indicated that he "Should have some news about [Charmaine's] releasing an album on [Threadhead Records] soon."
Jason contributes lead vocals to "Trying to Make It Home" on (funky METERS drummer) Russell Batiste's latest album, "Follow Your Dreams" (credited to Russell Batiste and Friends.)
Jason appeared with Russell & Friends at the 2010 Jazz and Heritage Festival and can be heard on the live recording of that show as well.
June 2010
Not exactly NEW releases per se, but excellent opportunities to acquire a couple hard-to-find Neville recordings...
Back in 2007, Target retail stores released an exclusive CD titled "A Song For My Father." The disc is comprised of hit songs, recorded by the children of the musicians who made those songs famous. One of the included recordings is a funky arrangment of "Yellow Moon,"credited to Ivan but actually performed by Dumpstaphunk. That CD was reissued on June 1 by 429 Records and is available at retailers and on-line stores such as Amazon.com and Louisiana Music Factory. For those who wish to acquire "Yellow Moon" without spending money on the whole CD, the track can be dowloaded from iTunes and Amazon's mp3 store.
Also, the long-out-of-print "Reggae Sessions" concert video (first aired on Cinemax back in 1988) is again available on DVD. The show features performances of "My Blood" and "Ain't No Use" by the Neville Brothers with special guest Carlos Santana.
May 2010
Last month, we previewed the new Neville Brothers CD, "From the Beginning, Volume 1" (aka "Live 1977." (Scroll down or click HERE to jump to that news item.)
Based solely on our familiarity with the recording itself, we stated that we "have NO problems recommending this release to ALL Neville fans!!!"
Unfortunately, we made that recommendation, sight unseen. Sadly, the release is NOT without its shortcomings and we just want to forewarn anyone who plans on buying the disc...
We tried the disc in two different CD-ROM drives. It played fine in one but NOT in the second. As such, we suspect that some players MIGHT have difficulty playing the disc.
More problematic is the dreaded "2-second gap" between tracks, which is fine for studio recordings but not for live recordings. Instead of hearing a continuous performance, the recording goes dead for three seconds and then resumes as it should.
Hopefully, our copy is a fluke and not the norm. It's a shame having an annoying flaw like this on an otherwise highly desirable recording.
The folks at Munckmusic/Jazzfest Live have been recording many of the JazzFest performances again this year and have several Neville-related shows available (all of which can be ordered HERE.) Please keep in mind that Nevilletracks has no affiliation with MunckMusic or any other seller.

It is very possible that one or more of the Nevilles was involved with the following shows although we are unsure at this time:
Galactic
(Cyril has been touring with Galactic for several months, so his sitting in with them at the Fest seems likely)Eric Lindell
(Ivan plays with him often and MIGHT have sat in)Gov't Mule
(Ivan sits in with Govt Mule occasionally)Voice Of The Wetlands
(Cyril is usually involved with the VOW and was probably involved with this performance as well)
ANOTHER VINTAGE NEVILLE SHOW NOW AVAILABLE
A while back, we heard through the rumor mill that Wolfgang's Vault (a company, which owns the rights to the recorded archives of Bill Graham Presents and the King Biscuit Flower Hour) would soon be offering a live Neville brothers recording for sale.
That recording, made at the Warfield Theater in San Francisco on 1989-02-27 is avalable NOW; and, so far, it can only be purchased via download. No word yet if there will be a physical release.
(As a reminder: this disc will be listed under 1989 in the discography and NOT under 2010!)

SURPRISE! A NEW NEVILLE BROTHERS CD
During recent interviews, Cyril has been mentioning a new series of archival releases, the first volume of which is set to kick off during Jazz Fest.
Well, it seems that Cyril was "telling it like it is..."
This CD, "From the Beginning, Volume 1" was released by the Brothers privately and can be purchased through the Louisiana Music Factory by clicking on this link.
Presumably, it will be available through other suppliers eventually.
Volume one is from 1977 and features the Wild Tchoupitoulas AND the Nevilles' first rhythm section, a band known as Blackmale with Gerald "Professor Shorthair" Tillman on keyboards, Roger Poche on bass, Renard Poche on guitar and Newton Mossop Jr. on drums.
A copy of this show has been in the Nevilltracks archives for several years now and we have NO problems recommending this release to ALL Neville fans!!!
(As a reminder: this disc will be found under 1977 in the discography and NOT under 2010!)
Thanks to Tony S. for making us aware of this release!
On April 20, Aaron announced (via his Facebook page) that he is currently in the studio, working on his next Gospel album.
This article from April 23 elaborates on the news a bit... "(producer) Joe Henry's right-hand man Ryan Freeland notes that sessions for Aaron Neville's new album are underway at Garfield House this week. These appear to be a second round of sessions with Neville, following a stint in New York in January... "Neville apparently has a few projects on deck, another one with Allen Toussaint as producer. Toussaint is playing piano on the JH sessions as well."
METERS SAMPLES ON HIP-HOP AND RAP RECORDINGS
In our efforts to help with the campaign to get the Meters inducted into the Rock and Roll Hall of Fame, we have been compiling information, which we believe might help to get the band noticed by the folks at the Rock Hall who decide which bands are inducted.
The results of our first fact-finding missions is a list of Rap and Hip-Hop songs which utilize samples of the Meters' recordings. we have relied on the accuracy of other on-line sources and have no plans to confirm that all of the information is correct.
We figure that, even if it only 75% accurate, the Rock Hall will have to acknowledge this significant contribution to the music industry.
Go HERE to see the list.
PETITION TO GET THE METERS INTO THE ROCK AND ROLL HALL OF FAME
As was mentioned here last month, there is a group of Meters fans on Facebook, trying to get the Meters inducted into the Rock and Roll Hall of Fame. Even if one feels that the Rock Hall is a sham, it would still be nice for the original band (including Cyril, of course) to start receiving some of the recognition that it deserves.
EVERYONE (not just those who use Facebook) can go HERE and sign the official on-line petition. Keep in mind that your email address will be hidden from public view, but your address will be visible to all who wish to view the petition. As such, feel free to enter nothing more than your zip code in the address box. Just don't put bogus information such as "MyTown, USA" because entering obvious misinformation like that results in the deletion of your submission and - as a result - a vote that doesn't get counted!

When we mentioned Jason's upcoming CD last month, we gave an incorrect web address for ordering the CD.
The site we listed is Jason's official web site, but the disc - which is NOW available - can be ordered from www.nevilletickets.myevent.com
It sounds like Saturday night's release party in New Orleans was a blast, with special guests (father) Aaron and Chris Paul (of the New Orleans Hornets.)
It looks like the Brothers will be touring a bit less for a while, while each brother will be touring individually with his respective side project.

NEW CYRIL COMPILATION COMING IN MAY
While perusing Amazon.com's website today, we discovered a listing for the soon-to-be-released compilation, "The Essential Cyril Neville 1994-2007." (The release date is listed as May 4, 2010 and the disc is being issued by M.C. Records, which released Cyril's excellent "Brand New Blues" CD.)
There will be a release party for the CD, featuring Cyril and Tribe 13 at Tipitina's French Quarter on Thursday, April 29!
According to Baton Rouge's WRKF Radio's web site, "The CD will be a collection from his five previously self released recordings from Cyril. Included will be a never before released track with Taj Mahal. Other special guests include Allen Toussaint, Eddie Bo, Marva Wright and Jason Neville."
We will update you as more information rolls in.

JASON NEVILLE'S DEBUT CD DUE IN MARCH
Most Neville fans already know that Jason Neville is Aaron's youngest son (and a talented performer in his own right!) Those who were fortunate enough to get copies of the Deff Generation's "Medicine" CD from 1991 witnessed his talent (especially on the ballad, "Love U Right.")
Back in late 2007, word started spreading about the impending release of Jason's debut CD. The previews on Jason's website made it clear that the disc would be one that MANY Neville fans would be interested in! Sadly, the buzz gradually died down and the disc never materialized.
A little over two years later, the wait is finally over!!! And something tells us that the disc will prove to have been worth the wait!!!
Details about the release are being kept pretty much under wraps for now, but we've heard just enough about it to leave us wanting more already! According to Jason, two tracks from the original CD were used on this release; but it was decided that the new disc should have more of that funky, Neville sound.
Thankfully, the wait will only be a few weeks. The disc will be hitting the street on March 27th and will be available through i-Tunes AND through Jason's web site. (jasonneville-nevillelegacy.com)
We'll let you know more as soon as details leak out.
"Kate Hudson, Kathy Bates and Whoopi Goldberg are among the cast in New Orleans this month for the filming of "Earthbound," a romantic drama set for release this fall... Moviemakers are including real New Orleans music in the film as well. New Orleans native Ivan Neville has written at least four original songs for the movie (and) appears in it with his band, Dumpstaphunk."
Needless to say, we're praying for a soundtrack LP!
Full story can be read HERE
While we DO know for a fact that some ideas are being kicked around regarding a new Neville Brothers album, it doesn't sound like anything will be released any time soon.
However, there are rumors of some vintage live recordings hitting the streets later on this year. If the rumors are true, we think that Neville fans will be VERY pleased. We have heard samples of one of these proposed releases and are already chomping at the bit, anxiously anticipating its release.
Allegedly, there will be other vault releases as well.
More details will follow as the rumors become official announcements...

WHAT YOU THINK ABOUT THEM SAINTS, THEY'RE TOO DAMN GOOD
(From Offbeat.com)... There have been a slew of Saints songs released all season, and just in time for the Saints’ first playoff game comes one from a heavy hitter: Cyril Neville. The song, “What You Think About Them Saints, They’re Too Damn Good”, is a classic carnival rave-up, with a chorus even catchier than the song’s title. Cyril sings lead, with his nephew co-producing and co-arranging the track.

Thanks to Tony Supriano for the heads-up on this!
